Like no other American artist of his time, Michael Kalish has built a career upon the inventive employment of license plates and other recycled materials - transforming them into some of the most renowned works of the contemporary art world and creating an entire brand and genre that continues to wow audiences.
For the past 20 years, his pieces have been featured in galleries and museums across the globe and purchased for the private collections of world leaders, professional athletes, musicians and US Presidents. His unique position as a preeminent arbiter of style and vision has led to features in The Wall Street Journal, NY Times, Details, Wired, ArtNews, CBS Sunday Morning, CNN, E!, MSN and TLC.
Kalish’s most recent venture, MONUMENTAL, is an extension of the Kalish brand as a form of experiential marketing and includes public works such as the the American International Award winning monument “reALIze.” A highly acclaimed, large-scale portrait of Muhammad Ali constructed from over 1,300 boxing speedbags, "reALIze" launched at the Staples Center on March 25, 2011 and received TV, print and online media coverage from 450 million outlets.
Other renowned works include the "Belle Époque" (an 18-foot interpretation of Perrier-Jouet’s anemone flower, commissioned by the famous champagne company and unveiled in NYC on June 11, 2012) as well as the football size monument "24M" (commissioned by BI and NASCAR and put on display around the US to help raise awareness for COPD). Like Perrier-Jouet, NASCAR and Muhammad Ali Enterprises, companies are asking Kalish to create physical concepts that represent their brands and grab audience attention in a unique way.
Moving forward with his vision, Kalish will soon be launching a line of curated collectable pieces and products that will be commercially available to the masses including art, housewares, furniture and bedding.
“Not just established but one of THE artists of today.”
